Vyutkrama
The Brain Stimulating Nasal Douche
Vyutkrama is the original Indian hand douche and it is very ancient Hindu technique for early morning brain stimulation. Vyutkrama is a dynamic pressure flush producing instant ionization and an internal vitality bath of the upper respiratory tract i.e. the nose and the throat.
Materials Needed
- Non-glass tumbler of capacity 250ml or 10 oz
- Cooking salt (rock or sea salt do not sufficiently dissolve)
- A supply of distinctly warm water – not cold! Not hot! Not tepid!
Solution Preparation
Mix the nasal douche solution by adding ½ a teaspoon of cooking salt to 250mls (approximately 10 fluid ounces) of warm water. Stir thoroughly so the salt water dissolves.
When you are learning it is a good idea to mix up to 500ml (approximately 20 fluid ounces) of solution so you have reserve to practice with. This would equal a teaspoon of cooking salt. You can do this in a pitcher and put it near by so the tumbler can be filled.
Method
Notice: This page is meant to serve only as a preparatory guide. Yogi Charu will provide detailed guidance during the practice. Do not try to learn this technique while you have a middle ear infection or very bad cold. Wait until you are over the problem and everything has returned to normal. Later you will learn by experience when you can do the Vyutkrama with a nasal infection. I would also have to add the caveat that if you are one of those people who gets water in their middle ear at the slightest provocation that Vyutkrama is not for you.
